    2. Add softened butter and knead until dough is smooth and elastic

    3. Let dough rest for about 1 hour or until slightly puffy

    4. Divide dough into three equal pieces and roll each into a 10-inch circle

    5. Place first circle on parchment and spread with chosen filling, then layer remaining circles, leaving the top plain

    6. Cut dough into 16 equal sections, twist pairs together, pinch ends to form star points

    7. Let shaped loaf rest 30 minutes, brush with beaten egg, and bake at 375°F (190°C) for 20-25 minutes until golden

    8. Dust with powdered sugar or brush with melted butter before serving
