Welcome to My Sourdough Obsession!

Hi, I’m Olivia Baker—yes, Baker really is my last name (how perfect is that?). A few years ago, if you’d told me I’d be geeking out over dough fermentation and bubbly starters, I would’ve laughed. But here I am: the kind of person who checks on her sourdough starter like it’s a beloved pet, brings up crumb structure in completely random conversations, and absolutely can’t resist the smell of fresh bread out of the oven.

My sourdough journey started like so many others—part curiosity, part quarantine boredom, and a whole lot of “why is my dough so sticky?” That first loaf? A complete flop. Flat, heavy, and about as edible as a brick. But something about the process pulled me back in. The science, the creativity, the quiet magic of flour, water, and time—it got me.

These days, I bake sourdough almost every day. It’s my therapy, my creative outlet, and let’s be honest—the best way to keep my kitchen smelling amazing all the time. But I get it—sourdough can seem overwhelming. The long waits, the technical terms, the fear of messing it up (I’ve been there!). That’s exactly why I started this blog—to simplify things, make it approachable, and show that anyone can bake great sourdough, no matter how hectic life is.

And speaking of busy—I totally get it. Between work, family, and my ongoing struggle to keep houseplants alive, I don’t always have time to knead dough or watch it like a hawk. That’s why I focus on practical sourdough baking—real tips, simple tricks, and recipes that actually fit into everyday life. You don’t need fancy gear, a pro oven, or a two-day process to bake amazing bread. Just a bit of patience, a good sense of humor (because yes, it will get messy), and maybe a cup of coffee while your dough does its thing.

On this blog, you’ll find easy-to-follow guides, beginner-friendly recipes, and plenty of bread nerdiness to keep it fun. Whether you’re just getting started with your first loaf or already deep into the wild world of sourdough, I’m really glad you’ve found your way here.

At the end of the day, sourdough is more than just baking—it’s about slowing down, enjoying the process, and finding joy in the little things. It’s that moment when you pull a golden, crackly loaf from the oven and realize you made it from nothing but flour, water, and time. So whether you’re chasing the perfect crust, the softest crumb, or just looking for a fun excuse to play with dough, you’re in the right place. Let’s make something special—one loaf at a time.

Happy baking,
Olivia 🍞✨
