Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 medium apples, peeled, cored, and sliced
  • 2 medium pears, peeled, cored, and sliced
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar or maple syrup
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour or cornstarch
  • pinch of salt
  • 1 1/2 cups old-fashioned granola with nuts and seeds
  • 1/2 cup rolled oats
  • 1/4 cup whole wheat or all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar or coconut sugar
  • 4 tablespoons butter or coconut oil, melted
  • 2 tablespoons honey or maple syrup
  • pinch of salt

  • Instructions

    1. Prepare the fruit filling by combining sliced apples and pears with lemon juice, brown sugar or maple syrup, cinnamon, nutmeg, vanilla extract, flour or cornstarch, and a pinch of salt.

    2. Butter or oil a 9×9-inch baking dish and spread the fruit mixture evenly in the dish.

    3. In a separate bowl, stir together granola, rolled oats, flour, sugar, and salt, then drizzle in melted butter or coconut oil and honey or maple syrup until the mixture holds small clusters.

    4. Sprinkle the granola topping evenly over the fruit and bake at 350°F (175°C) for 35–40 minutes until the fruit is bubbling and the topping is golden brown.

    5. Allow the crisp to rest for 15 minutes uncovered before serving to let the juices thicken and preserve the crunchy topping.
