2. In a bowl combine flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, and cold butter, cut in until crumbly, then mix in the egg and press into the pan. Bake for 12 to 15 minutes until lightly golden.
3. In a bowl toss apples with sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice until evenly coated.
4. Spread the apple mixture over the prebaked crust in an even layer.
5. In a bowl combine flour, brown sugar, and cinnamon, cut in cold butter until coarse crumbs form.
6. Sprinkle the crumb topping over the apples and bake for 35 to 40 minutes until golden and bubbling.
7. Let the bars cool completely on a wire rack, then lift out with the parchment overhang and slice into bars.
