3. Stir in lemon juice remove from heat and let cool slightly
4. Whisk eggs milk vanilla extract cinnamon and salt in a bowl until smooth
5. Pour custard into a shallow dish
6. Spoon apple filling onto 4 bread slices leaving a border then top with remaining slices to form sandwiches
7. Heat butter in a skillet over medium heat
8. Dip each sandwich in custard briefly on both sides and place in skillet
9. Cook 3–4 minutes per side until golden brown and cooked through
