Chocolate Cherry Sourdough Truffles

  • Total Time: 55 minutes
  • Yield: 24 truffles 1x

Description

These no-bake truffles blend the tang of sourdough with sweet cherry filling and a glossy chocolate shell for a nostalgic, gourmet holiday treat.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1/2 cup active sourdough starter or discard
  • 1 cup dark or semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 2 tablespoons butter or coconut oil
  • 1/4 cup cocoa powder
  • 1/4 cup powdered sugar
  • 3/4 cup finely chopped candied cherries
  • 1 tablespoon maraschino cherry syrup optional
  • 1/4 cup sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 and 1/2 cups chocolate chips for coating
  • 1 tablespoon coconut oil or shortening
  • crushed toasted nuts optional
  • mini candied cherry pieces optional

  • Instructions

    1. Melt 1 cup chocolate chips and butter or coconut oil in a heatproof bowl over simmering water or in short microwave bursts until smooth.

    2. Whisk in cocoa powder, powdered sugar, and sourdough starter until a thick, velvety dough forms.

    3. Spread the chocolate base in a lined pan or scoop into small mounds and chill for 30 minutes until firm.

    4. Combine chopped candied cherries, condensed milk, powdered sugar, vanilla, and optional cherry syrup until a sticky, thick filling forms and chill.

    5. Flatten a portion of chilled sourdough base, place a cherry filling ball in the center, then enclose and roll into a smooth truffle.

    6. Chill shaped truffles for 20 minutes to firm up before coating.

    7. Melt coating chocolate chips with coconut oil until glossy.

    8. Dip each truffle in coating chocolate, allow excess to drip off, then return to the lined sheet.

    9. Before the coating sets, sprinkle with nuts or cherry pieces or drizzle with contrasting chocolate.

    10. Refrigerate finished truffles for at least 30 minutes until firm before serving.
