Description
Glazed donuts crowned with glossy candy-coated apple rings for a bright, crunchy, and nostalgic fall party treat that’s easy to assemble and budget-friendly.
Ingredients
8 plain or glazed donuts
2 crisp apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)
1 cup granulated sugar
1/2 cup light corn syrup
1/2 cup water
3–4 drops red gel food coloring
1 tablespoon lemon juice + 1 cup water (for anti-browning dip)
Nonstick spray or parchment paper
1/4 cup light icing or melted chocolate (for glue)
Optional toppings: Halloween sprinkles, crushed nuts, candy corn, melted chocolate drizzle
Instructions
1. Line a baking sheet with parchment and lightly spray; set a cooling rack nearby.
2. If using store-bought donuts, refresh 5–10 seconds in the microwave; let cool.
3. Core apples and slice into 1/4-inch rings; dip in lemon-water, then pat dry.
4. In a saucepan, combine sugar, corn syrup, and 1/2 cup water; boil to 300°F (hard-crack) without stirring.
5. Remove from heat and stir in food coloring; work quickly.
6. Skewer each apple ring, dip to coat, let excess drip, and set on parchment to harden 5–10 minutes.
7. Dab icing or melted chocolate on each donut and place one candy apple slice on top to adhere.
8. Decorate with sprinkles, nuts, or chocolate drizzle; let set 5 minutes.
9. Serve the same day for best crunch; keep at room temperature up to 4 hours.
