Description
Fudgy brownies topped with candy eyeballs and bloody red gel for a spooky, party-ready treat perfect for Halloween or Friday the 13th.
Ingredients
All-purpose flour – 1 cup
Unsweetened cocoa powder – 1/2 cup
Granulated sugar – 1 cup
Light brown sugar, packed – 1/2 cup
Unsalted butter, melted – 1/2 cup
Large eggs – 2
Vanilla extract – 1 teaspoon
Fine salt – 1/2 teaspoon
Chocolate chips – 1/2 cup (optional)
Vanilla frosting – 1/2 cup
Candy eyeballs – 16 to 20
Red gel icing – as needed
Black icing or melted dark chocolate – as needed
Instant espresso powder – 1 teaspoon (optional)
Instructions
1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a 9×9-inch pan with parchment.
2. Whisk flour, cocoa, and salt in a bowl.
3. In another bowl whisk melted butter, granulated sugar, brown sugar, eggs, and vanilla until glossy.
4. Fold dry ingredients into wet just until combined.
5. Stir in chocolate chips and espresso powder if using.
6. Spread batter in the pan and smooth the top.
7. Bake 25–30 minutes, until a tester has a few moist crumbs.
8. Cool completely on a rack, then lift out and cut into 16 squares.
9. Spread a thin layer of frosting on each brownie.
10. Press a candy eyeball into the center of each square.
11. Pipe red gel veins outward from the eyeball.
12. Outline or dot pupils with black icing or melted dark chocolate and let set.
