Heart-Shaped Caprese Skewers

  • Total Time: 15 minutes
  • Yield: 12 skewers 1x

Description

These heart-shaped Caprese skewers are a delightful and easy appetizer, perfect for Valentine’s Day or any festive occasion. Featuring juicy tomatoes, creamy mozzarella, and fragrant basil, all artfully arranged into charming heart shapes, they offer a pop of festive color and fresh flavor. This recipe is quick to prepare, versatile, and makes an impressive appetizer without spending hours in the kitchen.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pint cherry or grape tomatoes
  • 8 ounces fresh mozzarella balls (bocconcini or ciliegine size)
  • 1 bunch fresh basil leaves
  • 2 tablespoons balsamic glaze (store-bought or homemade)
  • Wooden skewers (6-inch or 8-inch are ideal)

  • Instructions

    1. Wash your cherry or grape tomatoes thoroughly. To create the heart shape, carefully cut each tomato diagonally, from the stem end to the opposite side, creating two halves.

    2. Take two of the diagonally cut tomato halves. Place them together on a flat surface with the cut sides facing inward and the pointed ends meeting to form a heart shape. The rounded sides of the tomato halves create the top curves of the heart.

    3. Drain your fresh mozzarella balls well. If they are larger bocconcini, cut them in half to better fit the skewer and proportion with the tomatoes. If using ciliegine, they are usually the perfect size as is.

    4. Gently wash your fresh basil leaves and pat them completely dry with a paper towel. This prevents any excess moisture from diluting the flavors.

    5. Carefully thread the ingredients onto your wooden skewers. Start by piercing one half of a tomato heart, then add a basil leaf (folded if large), followed by a mozzarella ball, another basil leaf, and finally the second half of the tomato heart. Ensure the pointed ends of the tomato halves meet to maintain the heart shape.

    6. Once all your skewers are assembled, arrange them neatly on a serving platter. Just before serving, generously drizzle the balsamic glaze over all the skewers. This adds a beautiful sheen and a burst of flavor.
