Ingredients

  • active sourdough starter
  • all-purpose flour
  • whole milk
  • unsalted butter
  • granulated sugar
  • eggs
  • salt
  • vanilla extract
  • oil for frying
  • pure maple syrup
  • powdered sugar
  • milk or cream
  • pinch of salt

  • Instructions

    1. Feed sourdough starter until bubbly

    2. Combine warm milk, sugar, eggs, sourdough starter, melted butter, and vanilla

    3. Gradually add flour and salt and knead until elastic

    4. Cover and proof dough overnight in refrigerator

    5. Roll dough to 1/2 inch thickness and cut donuts, then proof 1 hour

    6. Heat oil to 350°F and fry donuts 1-2 minutes per side until golden

    7. Whisk maple syrup, melted butter, powdered sugar, milk, and salt until smooth

    8. Dip warm donuts into glaze and let excess drip off, then set to cool
