Creepy-cute Halloween appetizers made with mini mozzarella, salami, and olive “pupils.” Quick to assemble, kid-friendly, and perfect for spooky party platters.
Ingredients
24 mini mozzarella balls (ciliegine), drained and patted dry
24 thin salami slices (round, flexible)
12 pitted black or green olives, sliced into rings
24 toothpicks or cocktail sticks
1 tsp olive oil (optional, to keep cheese moist)
1 tbsp cream cheese or hummus (optional, as “glue”)
1 tbsp roasted red pepper puree or sriracha (optional, for “veins”)
1 tbsp finely chopped parsley or basil (optional garnish)
Instructions
1. Drain mozzarella and pat very dry with paper towels.
2. Slice pitted olives into thin rings to form the pupils.
3. Trim salami if needed; wrap one slice snugly around each mozzarella ball.
4. Dab a tiny bit of cream cheese on top (optional) and place an olive ring as the pupil.
5. Skewer each bite with a toothpick to secure.
6. Arrange on a platter; drizzle red pepper puree or sriracha for bloodshot “veins.”
7. Brush lightly with olive oil and sprinkle herbs if using.
8. Serve immediately or cover and chill up to 4 hours; keep out at room temp ≤ 2 hours.
