Instructions
1. Spread butter evenly on one side of each slice of sourdough bread.
2. Place one slice of bread, buttered side down, on a heated panini press or skillet.
3. Layer half of the cheddar cheese on the bread to form a melt shield.
4. Arrange apple slices evenly over the cheese.
5. Add honey mustard, caramelized onions, or turkey slices if using.
6. Top with the remaining cheddar cheese and place the second slice of bread, buttered side up.
7. Close the panini press and grill for 3 to 5 minutes until bread is golden and cheese is melted.
8. If using a skillet, cook for 3 to 4 minutes per side, pressing gently with a spatula or another skillet.
