1. Feed and ready sourdough starter until bubbly and doubled in size
2. Whisk starter, warm milk, melted butter, egg, sugar, and vanilla until smooth
3. Combine flours and salt in a separate bowl
4. Gradually add dry ingredients to wet mixture and stir until no dry flour remains
5. Fold in chocolate chips gently
6. Cover and bulk ferment at room temperature for 3 to 4 hours
7. Transfer batter to a lined loaf pan and proof for 60 to 90 minutes
8. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and optionally add steam
9. Bake loaf for 45 to 55 minutes until golden and internal temperature reaches 190°F (88°C)
10. Cool in pan for 10 minutes then on a wire rack for 1 to 2 hours before slicing
