Sourdough Parmesan Breadsticks

Description

Golden, tangy sourdough breadsticks flavored with garlic and Parmesan cheese. Quick to prepare and perfect as an appetizer or side dish, these homemade breadsticks deliver a crisp exterior and tender interior.


Ingredients

  • 1 cup active sourdough starter
  • 3/4 cup warm water
  • 2 cups bread flour
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tbsp honey or sugar
  • 2 tbsp melted butter
  • 1 tbsp olive oil (for brushing)
  • 1 tsp dried oregano or parsley

  • Instructions

    1. In a large bowl whisk sourdough starter, warm water, honey and melted butter until combined.

    2. Add bread flour, salt and garlic powder and stir until a sticky dough forms.

    3. Turn dough onto a floured surface and knead 6–8 minutes until smooth and elastic.

    4. Place dough in an oiled bowl, cover, and let rise at room temperature 2–3 hours until nearly doubled.

    5. Punch down dough, roll into a ½-inch-thick rectangle, brush with butter, sprinkle half the Parmesan and herbs, fold and roll lightly.

    6. Cut into ¾-inch strips, twist each strip, place on parchment-lined sheet, brush with oil, and top with remaining Parmesan.

    7. Let rest 20–30 minutes while oven heats to 400°F, then bake 15–18 minutes until golden. Brush with garlic butter and serve warm.
