Sourdough Parmesan Garlic Breadsticks With Marinara Sauce

Description

Golden sourdough breadsticks flavored with garlic butter and parmesan, served with a rich homemade marinara sauce for dipping.


Ingredients

  • 0.5 cup active sourdough starter
  • 0.75 cup warm water
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil or melted butter
  • 1 tablespoon honey or sugar
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon fine sea salt
  • 0.25 cup freshly grated parmesan cheese
  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 0.5 teaspoon dried Italian herbs (optional)
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 can (14 oz) crushed tomatoes
  • 1 tablespoon tomato paste
  • 0.5 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 0.5 teaspoon dried basil
  • 0.5 teaspoon sugar
  • Salt and pepper to taste

  • Instructions

    1. Feed and activate sourdough starter until bubbly and doubled in size

    2. In a large bowl mix starter, water, olive oil, and honey

    3. Add flour, salt, and parmesan and stir until a soft dough forms

    4. Rest dough for 30 minutes then perform stretch and fold

    5. Allow dough to rise for 4 to 6 hours or refrigerate overnight

    6. Roll dough into a rectangle and cut into 12 strips

    7. Twist strips if desired and place on parchment-lined baking sheet

    8. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C)

    9. Melt butter with minced garlic and brush over dough strips

    10. Sprinkle additional parmesan and herbs over breadsticks

    11. Bake for 15 to 18 minutes until golden brown

    12. For the marinara heat olive oil, sauté garlic then add tomatoes, tomato paste, herbs, sugar, salt, and pepper

    13. Simmer sauce for 10 to 15 minutes until thickened

    14. Serve breadsticks warm with marinara sauce for dipping
