This savory sourdough snack mix is a fantastic, easy-to-make treat perfect for Halloween parties, movie nights, or any autumn gathering. It combines various sourdough textures with a delicious blend of savory seasonings, nuts, and seeds for an irresistible crunch. Adaptable and quick, it’s a crowd-pleasing snack that’s ready in under an hour.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups cubed sourdough bread (from a rustic loaf, day-old is best)
  • 2 cups sourdough pretzel pieces
  • 1 cup sourdough cracker squares
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional, for a little kick)
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried dill
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 cup mixed nuts (pecans, walnuts, almonds)
  • 1/2 cup pumpkin seeds (pepitas)

  • Instructions

    1. Preheat your oven to 300 F (150 C). Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking and make cleanup easier.

    2. In a very large mixing bowl, combine the cubed sourdough bread, sourdough pretzel pieces, sourdough cracker squares, mixed nuts, and pumpkin seeds. Toss them gently to ensure they are evenly distributed.

    3. In a separate medium bowl, whisk together the melted butter, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, cayenne pepper (if using), dried dill, salt, and black pepper until well combined. The mixture should be smooth and fragrant.

    4. Pour the butter and seasoning mixture over the dry ingredients in the large bowl. Use a large spoon or spatula to gently toss everything together, making sure all the bread, pretzels, crackers, and nuts are thoroughly coated with the savory seasoning. Continue tossing until no dry spots remain.

    5. Spread the coated snack mix in a single layer on the prepared baking sheet. Try not to overcrowd the pan; if necessary, use two baking sheets. Bake for 20-25 minutes, stirring gently every 10 minutes, until the mix is golden brown and crispy.

    6. Once baked, remove the baking sheet from the oven and let the snack mix cool completely on the pan. It will become even crispier as it cools. Once fully cooled, it’s ready to serve!
