Description
Festive store-bought donuts topped with caramel- or chocolate-dipped apple slices, spooky icing, and sprinkles. An easy, budget-friendly Halloween treat that travels well for school, work, or parties.
Ingredients
12 plain donuts (glazed or cake style)
2 medium apples, thinly sliced
1 tbsp lemon juice + 1 cup water (for anti-browning dip)
1/2 cup caramel dip or melted chocolate
1 cup vanilla icing (or cookie icing tubes)
1/2 cup chocolate icing
Orange and green gel food coloring (optional)
2 tbsp black decorating gel or melted chocolate (for webs/faces)
24 candy eyeballs or mini chocolate chips
1/4 cup orange and black sprinkles
Parchment paper, for setting dipped apples
Instructions
1. Stir lemon juice into water. Slice apples into thin rounds or wedges; dip briefly in lemon water, then pat dry.
2. Dip each apple slice halfway into caramel or melted chocolate. Place on parchment to set while you prep donuts.
3. Lay donuts on a tray. If glazed, lightly blot tops so icing adheres.
4. Tint vanilla icing orange or green if desired. Spread or drizzle icing over donuts to create base colors.
5. Place one dipped apple slice at the center of each donut as a candy-apple topper.
6. Add spooky details: pipe webs or jack-o’-lantern faces with black gel; press on candy eyeballs; finish with sprinkles.
7. Let decorations set 10–15 minutes. Serve on cupcake liners or a platter for easy grabbing.
8. Make-ahead tip: Ice donuts up to 1 day ahead; add apple slices the day of serving for best freshness.
