Ingredients
12 glazed or plain cake donuts
2 crisp apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp), sliced into 1/4-inch rings
1 tablespoon lemon juice + 1 cup cold water (for apple soak)
1 cup red candy melts or clear candy coating
1 teaspoon coconut oil or vegetable shortening (optional, to thin melts)
1/4 cup cinnamon sugar
1/2 cup crushed peanuts or pecans
1/3 cup caramel sauce, for drizzling
Edible glitter or festive sprinkles (optional)
Instructions
1. Line a sheet pan with parchment and set donuts out at room temp.
2. Slice apples into 1/4-inch rings, remove cores; soak 5 minutes in lemon water, then pat dry.
3. Melt candy melts with coconut oil per package directions until smooth and fluid.
4. Dip each apple ring, let excess drip, and place on parchment to set slightly.
5. While tacky, sprinkle cinnamon sugar and nuts; let set 10 minutes.
6. Arrange donuts on a platter; top each with one candied apple ring.
7. Drizzle lightly with caramel; add glitter or sprinkles if using.
8. Chill 10 minutes to firm, then serve the same day for best crunch.
