Description

These chilled apple bars combine a tender cake mix crust with spiced apple filling and a sweet glaze for a refreshing dessert any season.

  • 1/2 cup melted butter
  • 1 egg
  • 34 medium apples peeled and diced
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 2 tablespoons flour or cornstarch
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 23 tablespoons milk or cream
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

  • Instructions

    1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a 9×13 inch pan with parchment paper

    2. Combine cake mix melted butter and egg until crumbly and press into the bottom of the pan

    3. In a bowl toss diced apples sugar cinnamon nutmeg lemon juice and flour until evenly coated

    4. Spread the apple mixture over the crust layer

    5. Bake for 25–30 minutes until the top is lightly golden and apples are tender

    6. Cool the bars at room temperature then refrigerate for at least 2–3 hours or overnight

    7. Whisk powdered sugar milk and vanilla until smooth and drizzle over chilled bars

    8. Optional top with chopped nuts cinnamon dusting or a caramel drizzle before the glaze sets

    9. Use a sharp knife warmed and dried between cuts to slice into bars
